Mission
The mission of the Sonoma County Mayors’ Committee on Employment
of People with Disabilities is to support the membership's efforts to encourage and promote the gainful employment of people with disabilities by creating a strong, friendly collaborative relationship between the employers, human services agencies, state, county & city elected officials, community organizations and individuals in Sonoma County.
Objective
The Committee will review, at the request of a member, programs that they believe will enhance and extend the mission of the SCMCEPD. Programs that have the support of the membership will be approved. Programs selected become Standing Committees and must have a chair.
Who Supports the Committee?
The Mayor’s Committee is an independent, volunteer, self-supporting membership organization with a partner relationship with the (9) Sonoma County Mayors and Councilmembers, Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, Santa Rosa Rotary Club, California State Department of Rehabilitation and Disability Service & Legal Center (DSLC).
The Mayors' Committee affiliates with organizations, such as, Goodwill Industries, City of Santa Rosa, Workforce Investment Board (WIB), Sonoma County Job Link, Communique Interpreting, Goodwill Industries, Redwood Empire Industries-CHDC, Hansel Auto Group, Winzler & Kelly Consulting Engineers, Dan Erickson-Edward Jones Investments, Geary & Associates, Inc. West County Community Services and Becoming Independent.
Who Can Be a Member?
The membership on the committee is open to anyone interested in actively promoting the employment and advancement of people with disabilities. Membership will be encouraged from representatives of government, public and private employers, organizations serving persons with disabilities and any organization or individual interested in promoting the employment of persons with disabilities Membership dues are $5.
All meetings are open to the public.
Officers
The Officers are: President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer. Officers are elected for a two year term. The Executive Committee consists of the Officers and the Past President.
Standing Committees
At present, there are three Standing Committees- Annual Best Practices Awards Event, Annual Youth Leadership Forum and Vocational Scholarship.
Administrative Support
Administrative support services are provided by Disability Services & Legal Center (DSLC).
Member's Employer
Members may or may not represent their company or organization. The member and their employer must understand that other members of the committee may contact the member's company or organization independently in the course of committee's business.
Voting Privileges
Only members of record have voting privileges- no substitutes.
